Safety

The AMG GLE’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The Purosangue doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

The AMG GLE offers optional Post-Collision Brake, which automatically apply the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The Purosangue doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

Earlier warning of stopped traffic, traffic signals, dangerous road conditions, weather, or accidents, can keep driver's safer and prevent crashes. The AMG GLE has Car-to-X, a system that seemlesly communicates important warnings to the driver about impending danger, if they're available. The Purosangue doesn’t offer a system that can receive automated systems from other vehicles.

The AMG GLE has a standard Surround View System to allow the driver to see objects all around the vehicle on a screen. The Purosangue only offers a rear monitor.

Both the AMG GLE and Purosangue have rear cross-traffic warning, but the AMG GLE has Active Brake Assist (automatically applies the brakes) to better prevent a collision when backing near traffic. The Purosangue’s Rear Cross Traffic Alert doesn’t automatically brake.

Both the AMG GLE and the Purosangue have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available lane departure warning systems.

The Mercedes AMG GLE weighs 798 to 1085 pounds more than the Ferrari Purosangue. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

For its performance in IIHS driver-side and passenger-side small overlap frontal, moderate overlap frontal, updated side impact, headlight, daytime pedestrian crash prevention, and nighttime pedestrian crash prevention testing, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety grants the AMG GLE its highest rating: “Top Safety Pick Plus” for 2023, a rating granted to only 67 vehicles tested by the IIHS. The Purosangue has not been tested, yet.

Warranty

The AMG GLE comes with a full 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Purosangue’s 3-year basic warranty expires 1 year sooner.

The AMG GLE’s corrosion warranty is 2 years longer than the Purosangue’s (5 vs. 3 years).

There are almost 10 times as many Mercedes dealers as there are Ferrari dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the AMG GLE’s warranty.

Reliability

The Purosangue’s redline is at 8250 RPM, which causes more engine wear, and a greater chance of a catastrophic engine failure. The AMG GLE has a 6800 to 7000 RPM redline.

Engine

The AMG GLE 63 S’ standard 4.0 turbo V8 hybrid produces 99 lbs.-ft. more torque (627 vs. 528) than the Purosangue’s 6.5 DOHC V12.

Fuel Economy and Range

On the EPA test cycle the AMG GLE gets better mileage than the Purosangue:

An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the AMG GLE 63 S’ fuel efficiency. The Purosangue doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

Regenerative brakes improve the AMG GLE’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The Purosangue doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

Transmission

A nine-speed automatic is standard on the Mercedes AMG GLE, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only an eight-speed automatic is available for the Purosangue.

Brakes and Stopping

For better stopping power the AMG GLE 63 S CCB’s front brake rotors are larger than those on the Purosangue:

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the AMG GLE has larger standard tires than the Purosangue (275/50R20 vs. 255/35R22). The AMG GLE’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Purosangue (F:285/40R22 & R:325/35R22 vs. F:255/35R22 & R:315/30R23).

Suspension and Handling

The front and rear suspension of the AMG GLE uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the Purosangue, which uses coil springs. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.

Passenger Space

The AMG GLE offers optional seating for 7 passengers; the Purosangue can only carry 4.

Cargo Capacity

The AMG GLE has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the Purosangue (33.3 vs. 16.7 cubic feet).

To make loading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the AMG GLE’s liftgate can be opened and closed just by kicking your foot under the back bumper, leaving your hands completely free. The Purosangue doesn’t offer a hands-free gesture to open its liftgate, forcing you to put cargo down if your hands are full.

Ergonomics

The AMG GLE has a standard remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The climate system will also automatically heat or cool the interior. The Purosangue doesn’t offer a remote starting system.

The AMG GLE offers an optional heads-up display that projects speed, tachometer and navigation instruction readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The Purosangue doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

The AMG GLE’s standard power window controls are mounted on the armrest for easy access. The Purosangue’s available power window controls are spread out on the center console where they can’t be seen without the driver completely removing his eyes from the road.

Heated windshield washer fluid is optional on the AMG GLE to defrost the washer nozzles and quickly clear ice and frost from the windshield without scraping. The Purosangue doesn’t offer heated windshield washer fluid.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the AMG GLE has a standard rear wiper. The Purosangue doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

The AMG GLE’s Active Parking Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. The Purosangue doesn’t offer an automated parking system.
