Safety

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the Mercedes AMG GT. But it costs extra on the M4.

Earlier warning of stopped traffic, traffic signals, dangerous road conditions, weather, or accidents, can keep driver's safer and prevent crashes. The Mercedes AMG GT has Car-to-X Communication, a system that seemlesly communicates important warnings to the driver about impending danger, if they're available. The M4 doesn’t offer a system that can receive automated systems from infrastructure or other vehicles.

Both the Mercedes AMG GT and the M4 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding and daytime running lights.

Warranty

There are over 10 percent more Mercedes dealers than there are BMW dealers, which makes it easier should you ever need service under the AMG GT’s warranty.

Engine

The Mercedes AMG GT 55’s standard 4.0 turbo V8 produces 110 lbs.-ft. more torque (516 vs. 406) than the M4’s standard 3.0 turbo 6-cylinder. The Mercedes AMG GT 55’s 4.0 turbo V8 produces 37 lbs.-ft. more torque (516 vs. 479) than the M4 Competition’s standard 3.0 turbo 6-cylinder. The Mercedes AMG GT 63’s standard 4.0 turbo V8 produces 74 more horsepower (577 vs. 503) and 111 lbs.-ft. more torque (590 vs. 479) than the M4 Competition’s standard 3.0 turbo 6-cylinder.

Fuel Economy and Range

The Mercedes AMG GT has 2.9 gallons more fuel capacity than the M4 (18.5 vs. 15.6 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

Transmission

The Mercedes AMG GT comes standard with an automatic transmission, for driver comfort, especially in the city. Automatic costs extra on the M4.

The Mercedes AMG GT offers a standard sequential manual gearbox (SMG). With no clutch pedal to worry about and a fully automatic mode, an SMG is much more efficient than a conventional automatic but just as easy to drive. The M4 doesn’t offer an SMG.

Brakes and Stopping

For better stopping power the Mercedes AMG GT’s standard front brake rotors are larger than those on the M4:

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the Mercedes AMG GT has larger tires than the M4 (F:295/30R20 & R:305/30R20 vs. F:275/40R18 & R:285/35R19).

The Mercedes AMG GT’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 30 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the M4’s standard 40 series front and 35 series rear tires. The Mercedes AMG GT’s tires are lower profile than the M4’s optional 35 series front tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Mercedes AMG GT has standard 20-inch wheels. Smaller 18-inch front and 19-inch rear wheels are standard on the M4. The Mercedes AMG GT’s optional 21-inch wheels are larger than the 19-inch front wheels and 20-inch rear wheels optional on the M4.

Suspension and Handling

The Mercedes AMG GT offers an available active suspension system, which counteracts cornering forces actively, limiting body roll and improving handling and stability. BMW doesn’t offer an active suspension on the M4.

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Mercedes AMG GT is 2.6 inches wider in the front and 3.2 inches wider in the rear than on the M4.

Chassis

The Mercedes AMG GT is 3 inches shorter than the M4, making the Mercedes AMG GT easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The front grille of the Mercedes AMG GT uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The M4 doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

Cargo Capacity

The Mercedes AMG GT’s standard folding rear seats are split to accommodate bulky cargo. The M4 Convertible’s standard single piece folding rear seat is not as flexible; long cargo and a passenger can’t share the rear seat.

Ergonomics

The Mercedes AMG GT has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the car heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the M4.

The Mercedes AMG GT offers optional massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the M4.
