Both the G-Class and the Sequoia have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, post-collision automatic braking systems, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

The G-Class comes with a full 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Sequoia’s 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 14,000 miles sooner.

The G 550’s standard 3.0 turbo 6-cylinder hybrid produces 6 more horsepower (443 vs. 437) than the Sequoia’s 3.4 turbo V6 hybrid. The AMG G 63’s standard 4.0 turbo V8 hybrid produces 140 more horsepower (577 vs. 437) and 44 lbs.-ft. more torque (627 vs. 583) than the Sequoia’s 3.4 turbo V6 hybrid. The G 580’s standard electric motors produces 142 more horsepower (579 vs. 437) and 276 lbs.-ft. more torque (859 vs. 583) than the Sequoia’s 3.4 turbo V6 hybrid.

The G 580 can travel with zero emissions for 239 miles. The Sequoia can’t move without running its internal combustion engine.

An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the G-Class AMG 63’s fuel efficiency. The Sequoia doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

Both the G-Class and Sequoia have a standard automatic start/stop engine feature to stop unnecessary fuel waste and pollution at stoplights and heavy traffic. The G-Class has a standard disable switch for the system, so a driver can keep the engine from shutting off when the vehicle stops temporarily.

The G-Class has 3.9 gallons more fuel capacity than the Sequoia (26.4 vs. 22.5 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

The G-Class AMG 63’s launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The Sequoia doesn’t offer launch control.

For better traction, the G-Class’ optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Sequoia (295/40R22 vs. 285/65R18).

The G-Class’ standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 60 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Sequoia’s standard 70 series tires. The G-Class’ optional tires have a lower 40 series profile than the Sequoia Capstone’s 50 series tires.

The G-Class has standard front and rear stabilizer bars, which help keep the G-Class flat and controlled during cornering. The Sequoia’s suspension doesn’t offer a rear stabilizer bar.

The G-Class AMG 63 offers active sway bars, which help keep it flat and controlled during cornering, but disconnect at lower speeds to smooth the ride and offer greater off-road suspension articulation. This helps keep the tires glued to the road on-road and off. The Sequoia doesn’t offer an active sway bar system.

The AMG G 63 offers an available adjustable active suspension system, which counteracts cornering forces actively, limiting body roll and improving handling and stability. Toyota doesn’t offer an active suspension on the Sequoia.

The G 580 handles at .80 G’s, while the Sequoia Capstone pulls only .76 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

For better maneuverability, the AMG G 63’s turning circle is .3 feet tighter than the Sequoia TRD Pro’s (44.3 feet vs. 44.6 feet).

For greater off-road capability the G-Class has a 1.1 inches greater minimum ground clearance than the Sequoia SR5 (9.5 vs. 8.4 inches), allowing the G-Class to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged. The G 580’s minimum ground clearance is .7 inch higher than on the Sequoia TRD Pro (9.8 vs. 9.1 inches).

The G 550 is 2 feet, 2.1 inches shorter than the Sequoia, making the G-Class easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The G-Class has 2.7 inches more front headroom, 2.1 inches more rear headroom and .3 inches more rear legroom than the Sequoia.

The G-Class has a much larger cargo volume than the Sequoia with its rear seat up (34.8 vs. 11.5 cubic feet).

The G-Class 580 can be flat towed on all four wheels (dinghy towed), allowing recreational vehicle owners to bring it with them on the road. When they reach their destination, the G-Class can be unhitched and driven around locally. The Sequoia can’t be towed flat on the ground.

Unlike the driver-only memory system in the Sequoia Limited/TRD Pro/1794/Platinum/Capstone, the G-Class has standard driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position and outside mirror angle and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The G-Class’ standard Keyless-Go allow you to unlock the doors from any outside door handle, unlock the cargo door, and start the vehicle, all without removing the key from the pocket or purse. Smart Key System standard on the Sequoia doesn’t offer a sensor on the rear doors, so you’ll have to reach a front handle to unlock the rear door.

The G-Class’ rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The Sequoia’s standard manually variable intermittent wipers have to be constantly adjusted.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The G-Class has standard headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The Sequoia doesn’t offer headlight washers.

To help drivers see further while navigating curves, the G-Class has standard adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle. The Sequoia doesn’t offer cornering lights.

The G-Class has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the Sequoia.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Mercedes G-Class has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. Wireless charging costs extra on the Sequoia and isn’t available on the Sequoia SR5.

The G-Class’ Active Parking Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. The Sequoia doesn’t offer an automated parking system.
