2026 Mercedes eSprinter
2025 Rivian Delivery

Safety

The eSprinter has standard driver and passenger side airbags combined with three-point seat belts, a combination which is 29% more effective in preventing injury and death than seatbelts alone. The Rivian Delivery doesn’t offer a passenger side airbag, only driver’s.

For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Mercedes eSprinter are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Rivian Delivery doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

The eSprinter has standard Post-Collision Brake, which automatically apply the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The Rivian Delivery doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

Both the eSprinter and Rivian Delivery offer rear cross-traffic warning, but the eSprinter with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert also has Rear Cross Traffic Braking (automatically applies the brakes) to better prevent a collision when backing near traffic. The Rivian Delivery’s Rear Cross-Traffic Warning doesn’t automatically brake.

Both the eSprinter and the Rivian Delivery have standard driver’s frontal airbag, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available blind spot warning systems, around view monitors and driver alert monitors.

Warranty

Mercedes pays for scheduled maintenance on the eSprinter for 4 years and 100,000 miles. Mercedes will pay for tire rotations, cabin filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance (up to 4 visits). Rivian doesn’t pay scheduled maintenance for the Delivery.

There are almost 4 times as many Mercedes dealers as there are Rivian dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the eSprinter’s warranty.

Reliability

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Mercedes vehicles are better in initial quality than Rivian vehicles. With 64 fewer problems per 100 vehicles, JD Power ranks Mercedes higher than Rivian.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ March 2026 Auto Issue reports that Mercedes vehicles are more reliable than Rivian vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Mercedes 7 places higher in reliability than Rivian.

Suspension and Handling

The eSprinter’s drift compensation steering can automatically compensate for road conditions which would cause the vehicle to drift from side to side, helping the driver to keep the vehicle straight more easily. The Rivian Delivery doesn’t offer drift compensation steering.

Chassis

The eSprinter is 8.8 inches shorter than the Rivian Delivery 500, making the eSprinter easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The eSprinter is 18.7 inches shorter in height than the Rivian Delivery, making the eSprinter much easier to wash and garage and drive (lower center of gravity).

Passenger Space

The eSprinter 144” WB offers optional seating for 6 passengers; the Rivian Delivery can only carry 2.

Cargo Capacity

To allow full utilization of available cargo room, the eSprinter’s cargo door uses door-type hinges that don’t intrude into the cargo area. Its intrusive roll-up hinge reduces the Rivian Delivery’s useful cargo area space.

Payload and Towing

The eSprinter has a 4100 lbs. towing capacity. The Rivian Delivery has no towing capacity.

Standard Trailer Stability Assist on the eSprinter uses the Electronic Stability Program sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The Rivian Delivery doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

The eSprinter has a much higher standard payload capacity than the Rivian Delivery (3120 vs. 2513 lbs.).

The eSprinter has a much higher maximum payload capacity than the Rivian Delivery (3516 vs. 2734 lbs.).

Ergonomics

When three different drivers share the eSprinter, the optional memory seats make it convenient for all three. Each setting activates different, customized memories for the driver and front passenger’s seat positions. The Rivian Delivery doesn’t offer memory seats.

The eSprinter’s front power windows open or close fully with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside the car. The Rivian Delivery’s passenger windows don’t open or close automatically.

If the windows are left open on the eSprinter the driver can close all of them from a distance using the remote. On a hot day the driver can also lower the windows the same way. The driver of the Rivian Delivery can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the eSprinter offers optional cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The Rivian Delivery doesn’t offer cornering lights.

The eSprinter has a standard center folding armrest for the driver and front passenger. A center armrest helps combat driver fatigue. The Rivian Delivery doesn’t offer a front seat center armrest.

Optional smartphone integration for the eSprinter allows the driver and passengers access to select programs on their smartphones so they can stay connected without taking their eyes off the road or their hands from the wheel. The Rivian Delivery doesn’t offer factory integrated smartphone program access.

Compared to the Rivian Delivery’s traditional radio, the Mercedes eSprinter optionally equipped with SiriusXM satellite radio provides an unmatched listening experience. Its extensive coverage guarantees consistent, crystal-clear reception across the continental U.S., and access to over 100 channels dedicated to a multitude of genres, including music, news, sports, talk shows, and comedy, many with only limited commercial breaks.
